As the leader of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis said the current administration in Harrisburg is laser focused on gang and gun violence, having so far committed millions of dollars on programs designed to make our communities safer. This week on The Volpe Report on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on FOX 56, Lt. Governor Davis will be discussing anti-gang programs like one the state has funded called BOOST - Building Opportunity Through Out of School Time. The Commonwealth has committed more than $11 million to this effort designed to provide structured programming for at-risk school-aged youth through local and statewide projects. Reports have put an estimated 100+ known gang members in Scranton public schools, and there have been more reported gang incidents in schools here than anywhere else in the state. Davis said the implementation of these programs has resulted in a 16% drop in violent crimes. Also up for discussion, the Violence Intervention and Prevention Program (VIP), to reduce domestic violence, as well as child care and a child care tax credit to assist working families.
