THE LUZERNE FOUNDATION COMMUNITY CHAMPION OF THE WEEK THE Luzerne FOUNDATION Here for good. Community Champion of the Week: The Clem-Mar House For more than three decades, The Clem-Mar House has stood as a beacon of hope for men seeking to rebuild their lives after addiction. Located in Northeastern Pennsylvania, The Clem-Mar House serves adult males, who have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder. This facility, licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, provides a vital level of care, structured with around-the-clock services, THE CLEM-MAR HOUSE SERVED 108 MEN IN 2024 yet a supportive step down from inpatient rehabilitation. We believe that recovery is about more than sobriety and abstinence, it's about transformation. Through a holistic approach that emphasizes life skills, personal accountability, and community integration, residents are given the tools they need to live healthy, independent lives. Over a three to six-month period, clients participate in group and individual counseling sessions led by certified drug and alcohol counselors, while also learning to navigate employment, relationships, self-help programs, and community responsibilities. And although a commitment to treatment and transformation can be scary, we hope our service dog, Blu can offer a direct sense of comfort and companionship to our residents. "Every person who walks through our doors deserves a chance to heal, grow, and rediscover their purpose, authentically. We're not just supporting people recovering from addiction, we're helping them build a foundation for lasting success with dignity and hope." Continuing its mission of service and recovery, Director Katie Wilk, her unwavering partners, and dedicated team, are expanding its reach with the upcoming opening of a new women's facility in Wilkes-Barre. This program, one of only 13 licensed women's halfway houses in Pennsylvania, will mirror the same person-centered model that has helped Clem-Mar evolve into a trusted name in recovery support. The expansion represents a critical step toward addressing the growing need for transitional housing and treatment services for women, and pregnant women. At The Clem-Mar House, recovery begins with compassion, structure, and hope. The organization remains deeply committed to strengthening individuals, families, and the wider community, one mother, father, child, friend, at a time. Working together makes our community stronger.
