THE LUZERNE FOUNDATION COMMUNITY CHAMPION OF THE WEEK THE Luzerne FOUNDATION Here for good. Community Champion of The Week: Outreach Center For Community Resources Helping families thrive is happening in Luzerne County. Last Spring, local non- profit Outreach - Center for Community Resources opened a new office in downtown Wilkes-Barre. Outreach is grateful to provide evidence-based parent/child programs in partnership with Luzerne County Children and Youth, led by Katrina Gownley, Director. Outreach believes our children's future begins at home, and providing a safe learning environment ensures the entire family's well-being. By providing programs such as Parents as Teachers®, and SafeCare® Augmented, Family Development Specialists work one-on-one with families in the comfort of their own homes. The Incredible Years works with parents in a group setting on timely topics such as establishing routines, planning quality time, and promoting other positive parenting techniques. These programs are designed to address home safety, protective factors, specialized needs, building social and emotional skills, early childhood development and education in preparation for school readiness, and more. They prepare both parents and children for educational success while strengthening family bonds. Since its inception in 1988, Outreach has provided services to over 35,000 Northeastern Pennsylvania community members. In addition to the three programs Outreach offers in Luzerne County, its Seventh Avenue Scranton Center houses a Young Adult Center, a PACTT Affiliate, that provides academic, career, and technical training, along with life skills and supportive services, for justice-involved youth aged 14-24 and transition-age foster care youth. The Young Adult Center boasts a workout area, a large kitchen for sharing family recipes, and a computer lab where participants can explore careers using virtual reality technology. The LEAD Center, housed in the Scranton office, offers workforce development and assists with resume writing, job readiness, mock interviews, employment search, and applications. Educational support provides instruction and individual tutoring to both juveniles and adults who need their GED credential. Additionally, Outreach offers Court-Related Programs that include reintegration services, life skills education, support groups, and services for men, women, and veterans in Lackawanna County Treatment Courts and at the Lackawanna County Prison, providing families and individuals with healthy life goals and planning for successful community reentry. Outreach's vision is to ensure that everyone has a chance to succeed in life, no matter their circumstance or background. Together, with community partners, Outreach helps move families forward to stability and self-sufficiency. Working together makes our community stronger. If you have a cause near to your heart and want to make a difference here in Northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond, please call us at the Luzeme Foundation or visit www.luzfdn.org for more information.
