THE LUZERNE FOUNDATION COMMUNITY CHAMPION OF THE WEEK THE Luzerne FOUNDATION Here for good. Community Champion of The Week: Chaz Balogh and Detective Spike Chaz Balogh and The Luzerne Foundation are proud to announce the release of the book "Detective Spike"! This book is geared toward school- aged children and talks about K9 Spike's duties, cyberbullying, and his everyday life. Inspired by the career of Electronic Detection K9 Spike and his partner and handler, 35-year law enforcement veteran Chaz Balogh, the book was written by local author Rachel Pugh to help inform children of how police K9s are used to help and support our community. DETECTIVE SPIKE "Spike has made a difference in our community, and we are so proud that through this book, he will continue to help the kids who need it the most," said Chaz Balogh. POLICE Balogh spent a large portion of his law enforcement career as a Detective Sergeant with the Luzerne County District Attorney's office, where he was the head of the unit that investigates computer crimes against children, specifically the downloading and sharing of child sexual abuse materials. After a distinguished career there, he is currently employed as a relationship manager with Our Rescue, an organization that battles worldwide sex trafficking and child exploitation. It was Our Rescue that provided the funds for Spike, Balogh's canine partner, trained in locating hidden electronic devices during searches as part of child sexual abuse investigations. A suggested donation of $20 per book is encouraged, with all proceeds benefiting the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center and other organizations dedicated to supporting vulnerable children. Contributions are managed by The Luzerne Foundation and can be made directly through their website at www.luzfdn.org. "We are delighted to assist Chaz and Spike in telling their story," said Luzerne Foundation President and CEO David Pedri. "Detective Spike" is the perfect vehicle for our children to learn about our dedicated police officers and their K9 partners!" continued Pedri. Chaz and Spike are available for follow-up interviews, and Spike loves the camera! To arrange an interview with Chaz and Spike, contact the Luzerne Foundation at 570-822-2065.
