Back then, Matt McGloin was an NFL star as the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. Now, his star is on the rise once again, except in a different kind of sport-the bloodsport of politics. A newly minted Lackawanna County Commissioner, having won a seat along with fellow Commissioner Bill Gaughan, he became part of the Democratic majority. Matt did not rest on his laurels for long. In the six months since his election victory, Matt has already sought higher office twice, winning both times. First, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania State University-a place he will forever be remembered for leading Penn State through it's darkest hour in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal and the NCAA sanctions. Not done, he threw his hat into the ring for Delegate to the Democratic National Convention representing the 8th Congressional District. In a crowded field, he finished as one of the top vote getters securing his place for the Convention. Finally, he was just notified that he was selected as a finalist for the Northeast Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
