VOI REP VOL REP PA's Must See Political Talk Show for the 13th Year Volpe Report PA TREASURER GARRITY: 70% OF 8TH GRADERS CAN'T READ f FOX56 WOLF The endorsed Republican candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania, PA Treasurer Stacy Garrity, shockingly revealed recently that up to 70 percent of the state's eighth graders are unable to read at grade level. If that number is correct, it means that the state's reading literacy rates at that level are three times under the national average, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Even worse, according to the 2024 Pennsylvania System of School Assessment results, about half of fourth graders cannot read at grade level. Treasurer, and now odds on gubernatorial candidate, Garrity is the guest this week on The Volpe Report Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on FOX 56. "We are 38th economically, 39th in education and 41st overall," she said. Garrity is challenging incumbent Governor Josh Shapiro. She said she was at his budget address in February when he said Pennsylvania is in the top ten in education and number nine in spending. However, not in results, as we sit at 39th. For budget year 2026-27, the Governor is proposing $565 million dollars in education spending. But Garrity pointed out that all of that money does not reach the students.
