The incident was shrouded in secrecy for six months until the victim was awarded a $295,000.00 settlement, also in secret. The Governor has maintained he did not know of the alleged harassment until the case was in settlement talks, despite the fact that his Chief of Staff and Chief Counsel were aware of it from the beginning. Moreover, emails relating to alleged harassment were deleted from the victim's server in contradiction to the state's documents retention schedule. No other employees who left had their emails deleted. A smoking gun? Strangely, Vereb was allowed to stay in his position for six months after the alleged incident. The deleted emails are being fought over in Commonwealth Court.
